Watching Fiona Gallagher (Emmy Rossum) hit rock bottom just makes me wonder just how much alcoholism is a family trait rather than a conscious choice. That can be argued. The fact is that Fiona, for a spell, turned into her father Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy).
In the last Shameless episode, Lip Gallagher (Jeremy Allen White) kicked Fiona out of the house in order to force her into sobriety. He told her best friend Veronica “V” Ball (Shanola Hampton) to leave her on the streets if she really loved Fiona. To be fair, V does own a bar, so she would only be enabling her. However, the pettiness in me made me think: really Lip? You’re mad at Fiona when she took care of you when your shitty parents refused to? Oh! you forgot when you were pissing on walls and messed up your chances of being the first Gallagher to finish college?
Black History Month is coming to an end and I want to give a major shout-out to my favorite actor, Mahershala Ali, who wowed me yet again, in his lead role as Detective Hays in HBO‘s True Detective.
Update: Mahershala Ali won an Oscar for Supporting Actor in the film Green Book. Personally, I went to watch the movie in the theater and I loved every part of it. Despite my knowledge of black history, I had no idea what the Green Book meant.
Ali plays a veteran ranger who spent his time mostly alone in the woods before spending most of his years as a detective. He watched his partner Roland West (Stephen Dorff) climb the ladder of success while he spent years on desk duty and being ignored despite his incredible skills. In the Purcell mystery case, West traveled through the woods with a full team and police dogs, searching for two missing children. But it was Hays’ intuition and skills that found the dead boy. West is white, Hays is black, and we know this story all too well.

Real estate is a booming market right now but it has not always been that way. In the past, the real estate market crashed, leaving many people to flee the business, and many others without a home. An Iowa Realtor talks about making it through the tough times in real estate when the market crashed, and when all odds were against a woman entering the male-dominated industry.

The most important thing happening in Grey’s Anatomy Season 15 Episode 11 is Dr. Catherine Avery’s (Debbie Allen) surgery. Grey Sloan Memorial’s top doctors like Dr. Thomas Koracick (Gregory Andrew Germann) need to work on Catherine in a surgery that might kill her or leave her paralyzed from the neck down.
Update: Catherine survived the surgery but all of the tumor was not removed. She has to live with cancer for the rest of her life.
As for the the heart wrenching love triangles, in the last episode, Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) decided that he wanted Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) after a freak accident nearly took his life. Amelia is his runner ex-wife — she ran away from him at the alter, then came back, she ran from their relationship, then came back — who advised him to go to his best friend/person Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver).
Life is not a sprint; it’s a marathon, a race (sometimes) and definitely a journey. Sometimes life is a race because you must not let too many opportunities pass you by; opportunities that might take a little extra work along the way – and some that might cause minor setbacks oddly enough.
We all fall down. But some of us get up. Be the person to get up and keep working on YOU like these three rock star millennials:
Liza, a 26-year-old rock star thriving at a publishing company, worked her way up from an assistant to a partner of an imprint. Be mindful though, that there is never a reason to sleep with the boss. Ever. Quit first if your feelings are that strong…and if they are mutual. Oh and Liza’s a 40-year-old fictional character in the TV Land series “Younger,” but definitely someone to look up to.
Cardi B, a 25-year-old Hip Hop star, worked her way up from an exotic dancer to an award winning artist. Remember to use those opportunities that come your way to the fullest potential like she did with her stint on the popular reality TV series “Love & Hip Hop.” Oh, and Cardi had a goal from the get-go, and she kept working at it for years…not months.
Claudia, a 24-year-old news writer, is still figuring it out. She is on her own path, making ends meet, while she writes for online publications on a daily basis. Oh, and Claudia is her biggest supporter and focuses on herself while working hard to write her future.
What’s the best formula for millennials to make it happen in the work place?
A millennial herself, Patrice Thompson, gives an 8-minute TED Talk about how companies can help bridge the gap between millennials and hard-working Gen X’ers, making it a better workplace for all.
The video is only eight minutes, so you know millennials can watch the whole thing LOL.
Anyway, Patrice, feeling a sense of pride after being the first person in her family to complete higher education, says she learned a lot from working in a multi-generational company, understanding that there are different ways to how Gen X and millennials think.
“At work we bring technological knowledge, new ideas, and knowledge of how to utilize existing networks and grow new networks effectively,” she said in the TED Talk. “Even though we are passionate, motivated, and keen to learn, I recognize the wisdom and experience that older generations bring.”
The three key things she learned from her Gen X coworkers are:
“Regardless of our generational differences, we all want the same thing,” Patrice admitted. “We all want the opportunity to be fairly compensated for our efforts, to have a greater work-life balance, and the opportunities to fulfill our potential.”
She went on to say that inter-generational conflicts are nothing new and that they surely aren’t going anywhere, so we need to learn to work together.
Thank you Patrice. For keeping it real.

We all love to travel. Or like the idea of getting a way. But what happens when you’re afraid to go to a different country for fear of something irrational happening to you like a scene from Taken? You travel with family or a tour guide.
I traveled to Cabo with family and we stayed at a resort. One night we ventured out and went downtown to a few clubs like Mandala and Avaquinta. However, the guy who took us from the airport to the resort told us that this part of Mexico was one of the safest places to travel into town. Continue reading
